Understanding Rare Chromosome and Gene Disorders

Emma St John

Administrative Assistant

I first discovered Unique back in May 2021 when we were handed a Unique leaflet after our daughter was diagnosed with a chromosome disorder involving chromosome 10. That leaflet was our key into the wonderful new world of rare chromosome disorders.

My background is in Beauty Therapy lecturing, but as many know, when your child is diagnosed with a chromosome disorder your life is turned upside down, and our daughter’s various health issues meant I couldn’t commit to my current role. So I became her full-time carer.

Unique approached my husband and I back in 2023 to speak at one of their family events. Whilst there I could see how important it was that families could connect and share their journey with likeminded people. That was when Unique Connections was born and my journey with Unique began to evolve.

I am now the Administration Assistant supporting the team with daily tasks, as well as helping to organise some more great events for families.
